A collective of printers,
united by three ideas:
peace, freedom, and the printed word.
Pax Libertas & Press is a project born out of the many conflicts of our time. Since printing has always been a powerful political tool, 15-year-old Émile decided to create PLP (Pax Libertas & Press), a project aimed at involving any letterpress printer, with the intention of printing a message of peace.
Émile based the project on two fundamental principles: no hierarchies and giving printers as much freedom as possible in designing the poster.
He immediately thought of an international project, so he involved three other printers: Katherine from Scotland, Matt from Australia, and Waka from Japan. The intention was to create a small group to decide on the basics.
The first meetings led to a few clear and simple agreements:
- free sheet format
- each person would represent what peace means to them through phrases, colors, and fonts
- 50% of the proceeds would go to Amnesty International
The interesting thing is that yes, the letterpress technique is identical in every country, but the style of graphic representation is completely different!
By purchasing one of the prints, which will be sent directly from its creator (with separate shipping costs), you will be supporting both the artist and promoter who composed and printed them, as well as Amnesty International: in fact, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the organization.
From these principles, PLP became a space of collaboration without borders — where printers from different cultures could speak a common language through their presses, yet maintain their individual voices and aesthetics.
